NAMI Starts Today
The North American Membership Initiative (NAMI) literally
begins today. It is a goal of each club in District 30-M to increase their
membership by a net of one new Lion by June 30, 2021. Let’s quickly recap how
to get to that number.

It’s the short-notice or no-notice membership losses that
are a big concern. Many Lions drop their membership for very controllable
reasons. One of them is having projects when some Lions cannot volunteer. An
even bigger turn-off for newer Lions is the feeling of being a hostage by long,
unproductive meetings. Hearing the words “We’ve done that before and it never
worked,” or “You don’t understand the objectives of this club” is possibly the
fastest way to have a Lion resign. Clubs can control some of those factors.
The goal of NAMI is not to find a new Lion in the next 12
months. The goal is to have a net membership increase of one in each of the 48
clubs. Each club, no matter if that club has five members or fifty members has
the same challenge. It’s to have a net membership increase.
If a club loses one Lion, they need to induct two new Lions
to meet the NAMI goal. One new Lion makes up for the membership loss. The other
is the net gain.
In the next few days, each club president and club secretary
will receive their specific membership goal. Just take a look at your current club
membership roster. Whatever the total membership number is, increase it by one.
It’s just that simple.
Over the next few weeks and months, we will provide you with
ideas on how to increase your club membership and also how to curb your
membership losses.
For the last 38 years, Lions in the United States have experienced
a net membership decline. So have Lions in Canada. So have Lions in Europe.
Lions in the United States are bound and determined to lead the way with
positive membership growth.
Positive membership growth cannot happen without the help of
each individual Lions Club. Will your club support the District Governor’s NAMI
goal? Can we count on you to increase your club membership?
FYI – There will be no blog on Friday, July 3. Next blog is Monday, July 6th. Happy Independence Day.
