Why Be A Lion?
Not everyone wants to hear the same “elevator” speech. That’s
because different people have different needs. Everyone has different goals.
Everyone has different skills. In short, there is no “one size fits all” way to
convince someone to join a Lions Club. Let’s make the impossible possible.
Has anyone asked, “What do you like about Lions?” That
merits another type of short answer.
“What made you want to become a Lion?” Tell them that story.
“What has been your most pleasant experience as a Lion?” There
again is another short story.
“If I became a Lion, what is my time commitment?” Again,
another concise answer.
“What do Lions do?” Be careful with this answer. Keep it very
short. Remember you have about 20 seconds worth of listening.
As an individual Lion, it’s important to know the many ways
Lions serve. Perhaps the prospective Lion has a need or desire that will generate
a membership application. Suppose that need or desire is the environment. Lions
Club International designated the environment as one of five international
service projects. Bragging on the clubs past achievements about vision or
diabetes would probably not result in a new Lion.
